Minister States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been told to refrain from discussing secret information in all cars.

Safety Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss classified information while travelling in China-made cars.

He explained that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Defence Background

The announcement follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This wider defence environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all areas of official activities, from transport usage to discussions practices.
